i'm goin to greece in 13 days..for the first time in my life!
i started an oddyssey 2 1/2 years ago from Athens Ohio which is finally taking me to Athens Greece
my family from my mothers side is from Chios..my fathers from the Peloponese
i speak Greek like a pirate..so i'm hoping to find some help from a few freinds and family
i fly into Athens on the 25th..then i want to take a ferry to Antalya Turkey for trhe week long solar eclipse party
after the party i plan to travel thru some of Greece till the 17th of April
i need places people advice and anything else that might help!

Wed, March 8, 2006 - 9:56 PMThere are GREAT ruins on the island of Thasos - including a marble quarry. Plus it's just beautiful there.
Stay in Naplion and go to the ruins of Olympia! Run a race in the stadium! It's fun!
Delphi is AMAZING! Go there too!
Antalya is wayyyyyy touristy and expensive.

Thu, March 9, 2006 - 1:46 PMAaaaah Greece. I lived there for 6 months to my never ending joy. Spend some time in the town of Nauplion on the SE Peloponesse. A beautiful beautiful town, right across the bay of Argos from . . .well Argos. Also visit Meteora in Thessaly. THAT you will not want to miss. A series of monasteries teetering on the tops of devil's tower like formations. Also be sure to visit Vergina and Dion in Macedonia, Corinth and Perachora, Eleusis, the island of Aegina, Thessaloniki (and the church of St. Demetrius there), the acropolis, the agora, the kerameikos, the national museum, the hill of the nymphs in athens, of course, thermopylae, olympia, mycenae, olynthos (that one is worth seeing), and . . . .I'm sure I'll think of some more. Give me a sec. -

Fri, March 10, 2006 - 1:34 PMVergina *is* lovely! The tomb of Philip of Macedon is there (Alexander the Great's father). Eleusis is also very lovely, and quite easily accessed by bus from Athens. Be sure to check out the large bothros and the Cave of Pluto.
Dion is one of the most beautiful archaeological sites I've seen - and I've seen sites in Israel, Italy, Turkey and Greece. Take the time to see the Isis sanctuary while you're there - there are a number of votive offerings still in situ. -
